R Channel Mount...

MOUNTING LOCATION: Over Opening

CAN INSERTS BE USED: Yes

The R CHANNEL MOUNT is a good installation method when openings are out of dimension by no more than 3/4" or when openings are not out of dimension at all. The "R" CHANNEL is utilized as an expander and a mounting flange at the same time. This method can be used with both Panels and Walls with little trouble in most cases. The details below shows mounting from both the exterior and from the interior. Spline channel on Master Frame always faces outward. This mounting method will allow the use of inserts.

This method entails the installation of our "R" CHANNEL on all sides of the Panel or Wall. The unit is then secured in place by securing the outer flange of the "R" CHANNEL to the structure. The Master Frame is actually placed inside of the opening when installed but the mounting flange will remain on the exterior or interior dependent upon mounting location.

MAJOR RESTRICTIONS & NOTES:
It is highly recommended that sufficient help is available during installation to lift and hold Panel(s) or Wall(s) in place until they can be fully mounted to structure. The "R" CHANNEL may be used to cover panel seams when panels are installed within 3/8" of each other (this will provide a clean finish) or if your opening requires the installation of more than 1 panel to cover an opening. See "R" CHANNEL INSTRUCTIONS for details.

Measuring...

Measuring for the "R" Channel Mount can be a little confusing.

  • 1) Measure each opening height and width. Measure in several locations (top, middle, bottom, left side, center, right side, etc.) and record all measurements taken. (To help, you may find it better to draw out each opening and note the measurements and locations taken)
  • 2) Compare the smallest and largest sizes for each openings width and height.
  • 2A) If there is more than 3/4" in difference between the smallest and largest width measurements -or- more than 3/4" in difference between the smallest and largest height measurements you'll need to square up the opening and reduce this difference to less than 3/4" in each. (There is no play here, more than 3/4" in difference will result in not enough mounting flange remaining for installation)
  • 2B) If there is less than 3/4" in difference between the smallest and largest measurements continue to step 3.
  • 3) Subtract 1/4" from the smallest width and 1/4" from the smallest height measurements found for each opening. (The 1/4" reduction provides for 1/8" of clearance on each side of the panel which will be needed for installation)
  • 4) The resulting sizes would be your true manufacture size for each panel or wall being ordered.

Plan carefully if you modify this installation since very little room for error exists.
