R Channel Mount...

MOUNTING LOCATION: Over Opening

CAN INSERTS BE USED: No

The BASE R CHANNEL MOUNT is a typical installation method that uses the "R" CHANNEL as a starter strip. This method can be used with both Panels and Walls with little trouble in most cases. Although the details below show a mounting from the exterior, this may also be utilized as a mounting from the interior by simply reversing the details shown. Spline channel on Master Frame would still face outward in interior installations.

This method entails the installation of our color matching "R" CHANNEL on the exterior lower edge of each structure opening first. Screen Panels or Walls are rested on the "R" CHANNEL for ease of installation. Screen panels are then attached to structure and then to "R" CHANNEL.

MAJOR RESTRICTIONS & NOTES:
While the "R" CHANNEL strip can be installed along the entire base edge of the opening as one full length of extrusion, it is recommended that the Panels or Walls be kept to a maximum of 96" in width due to weight and manageability of larger units during installation.
It is also highly recommended that sufficient help is available during installation to lift and hold Panel(s) or Wall(s) in place until they can be fully mounted to structure. The "R" CHANNEL may be used to cover panel seams when panels are installed within 3/8" of each other (this will provide a clean finish) or if your opening requires the installation of more than 1 panel to cover an opening. See "R" CHANNEL INSTRUCTIONS for details.

Measuring...

Measuring for the base "R" channel mount is basically the same as the standard face mount.

  • 1) Measure each opening height and width. Measure in several locations (top, middle, bottom, left side, center, right side, etc.) and record the largest measurements taken. (To help, you may find it better to draw out each opening and note the measurements and locations taken)
  • 2) Determine the amount of overlap you would like for each side of each panel.
  • 3) Add the overlap required to the largest opening measurements taken for each opening. Remember - to include the overlap required for all 4 sides. EXAMPLE: If you require a 1" overlap on each side of your panel, you'll need to add 2" to your opening width and 2" to your opening height. This would provide a 1" overlap on all sides of your manufactured panel.
  • 3A) Do not attempt to account for the thickness of the "R" channel when attached to the frame panel in your overall sizing calculations - this amount is negligible. But, be sure to consider that the channel will extend downward 7/8" below the base edge of the screen panel. Be sure there is sufficient clearance for installation.
  • 4) The resulting sizes would be your true manufacture size for each panel or wall being ordered.

You can also modify this installation as required for your particular installation requirements.

Very Important...

In all cases, your submitted sizes are to be True Manufacture Sizes (TTT production sizes) required. We do not modify order sizes.

Installation...

Proper planning is essential for trouble free installation. Installation of this system can be performed by most skilled persons. A general home improvement contractor will have no problem.
