Porch Screen Panels

This page reviews the use of our other stock frame materials with respect to Porch Screening projects. Information presented is relevant whether you plan to manufacture your own panels or your planning to have Connecticut Screen Works® manufacture panels for you.

While any of our stock frame materials can be used for porch project you should consider our recommendations prior to selecting materials. All items shown on this page are available in raw form or as fully manufactured panels. Utilization of all of these materials is very straight forward so home manufacture will not be challenging to those with at least some mechanical skills.

Points to keep in mind when ordering or designing your porch panels.

Sizing Your Panels...
Keep your panels well under the maximum UI size for the frame material you have selected. The closer you are to the maximum UI size the more flexible the frame will be. The larger the panel is the more secure the instillation must be. Keep your panels sizes under the size limits for the screen material you have selected.

Support Bars...
You should use support bars as recommended. They add more points of contact and result in a frame that is substantially more sturdy. Failure to use bars as recommended may result in an hour glass effect or loose screen material. (see installations below) Review details on the Frame Materials page for proper support bar use and fabrication.

Installations...
Keep your installations simple but secure. You want to be able to remove a screen for repair but still keep it from falling out during a gusty day. Consider using a face mount or stop method installation for large screens with no support bars. This will enable a "stretching" of the frame during installation to counteract any hour glass effect or loose screen.

Top Materials to Consider...

Item FRM1716: 7/16" X 1" roll formed frame material is an excellent choice for any screen. It offers excellent strength when used for window applications and when used for porch or other large screens it offers superior quality and good strength. We use this product for so many applications we can't say enough about it. This is an excellent choice for job site or back yard fabrication.

Our Recommendation: Excellent all around use material best suited for window and porches. This material is also excellent for triangles and trapezoids and also works well when matching PVC inserts are to be used. By configuring your project so panels can be swapped out with the seasonal changes, a second set of frames - with our vinyl film installed - will winterize your porch and keep the snow and rain out during the off season.
